The Daily Grind coffeehouse offers savory brewed coffee

Adam Schidler knows the the rigors of serving in the military, having served in the Air Force from 2003 to 2012. But sometimes you can end up in a “foxhole” in the rough-and-tumble world of business.
Case in point: Adam’s business, The Daily Grind coffeehouse at 409 S. Missouri Ave. in downtown Weslaco, where he has served savory brews and tasty treats for nearly nine years, ground to a halt the day that his state-of-the-art Italian-made espresso machine spat out its last drink and ceased to function.
With such an expensive “dead soldier” in tow, Adam, for a time, was in a bind, wondering what to do. Easy answers were not readily apparent. Various operating costs don’t just go up in steam. A new imported espresso machine—the proper kind that can deliver a proper cup of coffee—costs around $10,000. Yes, $10,000.

Well, Adam was happy to report to this Weslaco World reporter that the grassroots support the Daily Grind has always enjoyed manifest itself in the especially helpful and heartfelt form of $10,000 in donations, which meant that Adam could obtain the new espresso machine without a hitch.
That, in turn, enabled him to borrow less money in the overall recovery process and save the entire business.
“The firefighters union, individuals and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association combined in making the $10,000 donation,” Adam said, with a clear sense of relief and optimism. “Every penny of it was one less penny to borrow. I still had to borrow a bit for payroll and utilities, but the contributions made things go faster.”
