WESLACO — Weslaco East Head Coach Mike Burgett and company look to get back into the winners column after taking a close 21-14 loss to McAllen High last week.

The Wildcats (3-2, 3-2) welcome the Lobos (3-3, 2-3) who look to extend their wining streak to two after their 22-16 win over Brownsville Porter last week.

Kick off at Bobby Lackey Stadium is set for Friday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams enter the contest evenly matched with their spread offense.

Look for Weslaco East team leader Quarterback Javier Garza to help move the chains with his dual threat passing and running game. Garza is averaging 148 total yards per game on the season.

Palmview Quarterback Christian Reyna is 96 yards passing per game.

The Wildcats will look to score big in the contest as Palmview has allowed 208 points on the season. The Wildcats defense has only allowed 52.

Wesalco East is undefeated at home on the season. The Wildcats defeated Donna High 24-0 , Brownsville Porter 17-7 and Brownsville Pace 27-0 at home respectively.

The Wildcats will need a “W” against the Lobos to stay in the hunt for a playoff berth and a chance for a piece of the District 16-5A Division I title.

Leading the way in the District is McAllen Memorial (5-0) and there is a three way tie for second between McAllen Rowe, McAllen High, Brownsville Memorial each (4-1).

Weslaco East’s last two games of the season involve McAllen Rowe at home on Oct. 29 and McAllen Memorial Nov. 4 on the road.
